On Sunday night, Jodie Foster walked away with her fourth Golden Globes award, this time for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film for her role in True Detective: Night Country. She gave a shout-out during her acceptance speech to Kit, her “scientist son” and Charlie, her “actor son who’s starting his career” for understanding “the joy that comes from doing really hard, meaningful, good work.” It was the perfect way to honor her sons, but SheKnows later flipped the tables on Foster.

“Play, you know, joy and play,” she responded sweetly. “I mean, that was the first gift that they gave me was, you know, being all fours around the house and, you know, making parades with silly musical instruments and rediscovering the world through their eyes.”

It makes complete sense for the 62-year-old actress to find innovation from her sons’ creativity. Even though they are now adults — Kit is 23 and Charlie is 26 — Foster shared that she goes back to those young memories to “remind myself that I’m just a play animal and that’s why I’m here.” She’s not a fan of the black-tie formalwear that’s required for the Golden Globes, but she sure loves “elf costumes.” LOL — we love that image!

“I like football painting my face. I like Halloween. I don’t know what that’s about, but there’s something about the joy that comes from being a kid, I think,” she added.

Foster is a proud mom who love gushing about her children’s success now that they’ve flown the coop. “They’re at that age where they’re starting their careers and they’re pretty insecure about what’s gonna happen,” she told People in September 2024. “But every time they get a joy … like I got this job, or I got an audition, my heart just fills up 14 times because I have this memory of a beautiful career that’s built on doing meaningful work, and I know that’s the recipe for happiness.”

 Her relationship with her sons came full circle because Kit was able to bask in his mother’s glow on Sunday night. As her plus-one to the show, he looked overjoyed to see his mom win. It was a big night for the Foster household!
