Jodie Foster has received her fifth Oscar nomination at the 96th Academy Awards. The actress is vying for the Best Supporting Actress nomination for the Netflix movie Nyad, which marked her much-awaited comeback last year. In the film, Jodie Foster portrayed Bonnie Stoll, a friend and former partner of the Nyad, tasked with training her for the challenging feat. While Foster’s achievements are numerous, the actress does not want her impressive Oscars record to be her sole legacy in the world.

In fact, Foster would prefer to leave behind some simpler things for people to remember her by once she has departed from this world.

After discussing the twists and turns in her career, the host struck up a conversation about the things she is “known for“. To this, the actress shared that people often ask her about how she would like to be remembered, especially by her children. Foster wants people to remember her for something “mundane,” that “brings back memories,” and not just for her Oscar heritage or illustrious history in the cinematic realm.

Off to a brilliant start in February, Jodie Foster is already enjoying early successes in 2024- with the Oscars and starring in the hit TV series True Detective. True Detective, a popular HBO production, is about a detective duo tackling new cases each season and is running pretty well. However, despite the Oscar nod, there is one thing about movies like Nyad that particularly concerned Colman Domingo, also an Oscar-nominated actor this year.

Foster’s Oscar nomination parallels Colman Domingo’s for one very obvious reason. And Domingo has recently made a plea to the audience for the same.

Colman Domingo had a request for Nyad and Rustin’s audiences

Rustin, a 2023 film about the life of Bayard Rustin, received widespread acclaim this year. Its lead, Colman Domingo, became the first openly gay black man nominated for the Best Actor. Yet, Domingo wants the audience to shift their focus elsewhere. Speaking on the Variety Awards Circuit podcast on January 25, Domingo wished that people do not overlook the meticulous “craftsmanship” involved in creating the movie. His comments also highlighted Jodie Foster’s nomination, who is on the same boat as well.

Both Rustin and Nyad featured the two artists portraying “openly gay characters“. However, the actor emphasized that beyond these groundbreaking portrayals of the LGBTQ community, their movies also showcase exceptional work behind the scenes. “It is not like we just showed up,” said Domingo about his and Foster’s contributions. While the Euphoria actor does not want his movie to be remembered for just one aspect of it, Jodie Foster does not want to be known for just her accomplishments as an actress.
