Meghan Markle has been spotted visiting a new Los Angeles wildfire relief effort – despite the backlash she’s faced for being a ‘disaster tourist’ from critics.

Over the past week, wildfires have ripped through LA, causing horrifying, mass devastation with many, including stars like Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, losing their homes.

Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, were seen Friday hugging victims at an evacuation center in Pasadena, but it looks like the Duke and Duchess have also been working with the Altadena Girls Fire Recovery Fund.The couple donated to the cause, which was launched by 14-year-old Avery Colvert to support teenage girls in her community to ‘regain their sense of self and confidence’ after the fires, through their Archewell Foundation.

The organization focuses on gathering clothing and personal items as well as beauty and hair care products.

In a new video posted to Instagram by Altadena Girls, Markle can be spotted talking to a young girl in what looks like a parking lot, as she lugged multiple bags, presumably full of donations, in her arms.

The mom-of-two cut a cool, casual figure in a pair of jeans, black t-shirt and navy blue baseball cap with the letters ‘L.A.’ emblazoned on it, as she was seen rubbing the girls’ arm.

The video that Markle was featured in was a compilation of short clips taken from their donation hub, as they invited students and teens displaced by the fires to shop and work with stylists for free.

‘And thank you to everyone who showed up on Monday, which was such a special day! We love you!’ the organization wrote in the caption of the video.

That same day, they also thanked The Archewell Foundation for their support in a separate post.

‘We can now accept donations directly to our organization and make sure that all of these funds get RIGHT to the community where it’s needed!’ they wrote.

In the comments section of the post, many royal fans praised Meghan and Harry for their work.

However, in the wake of the tragedies, they’ve faced backlash from critics.

Video captured by Fox 11 Los Angeles showed Harry and Meghan in Pasadena on Friday, mingling with volunteers and the city’s mayor, Victor Gordo as they spent time with evacuees.

The interaction was broadcast live, with news anchor Susan Hirasuna later being slammed online for describing Meghan as ‘Princess Markle.’ She also received criticism for saying Meghan was ‘hanging out with the commoners.’

However, the Mayor gushed over their efforts, calling them ‘very caring people.’

Later, actress Justine Bateman went off on the couple on X, formerly Twitter, bashing them as ‘disaster tourists.’

Family Ties star Bateman wrote online: ‘Meghan Markle and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers.’What a repulsive “photo op” they achieved. They are “touring the damage”? Are they politicians now?

‘They don’t live here; they are tourists. Disaster Tourists.’

However, a source recently told Page Six that the couple feels ‘offended’ by Bateman’s comments.

The source told the outlet: ‘It’s offensive to Meghan and Harry that anybody would think this is merely a photo opportunity.

‘Meghan was born and raised in Los Angeles so this is, and always will be, home to her.’

They added that Markle is ‘not just a tourist’, and that her ‘heart is completely broken for all the lives that have been lost and for those whose homes have been destroyed in these fires.’

Amid the wildfires, Markle’s new Netflix show has also been pushed back from its original January 15 premiere date to March 4.
