Netflix viewers are abuzz with excitement over The Chestnut Man, the Danish crime drama that’s earned a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Dubbed “addictive” by fans, the six-episode series has had many glued to their screens, with some finishing the binge-worthy thriller in just two days.
Released in 2021, the show is based on the bestselling novel by Soren Sveistrup and takes viewers deep into the dark streets of Copenhagen. The story begins with the grisly discovery of a young woman’s body, a mysterious chestnut figurine dangling above her. Detectives Naia Thulin (Danica Curcic) and Mark Hess (Mikkel Boe Folsgaard) are tasked with solving the case, only to uncover connections to the disappearance of a politician’s daughter a year earlier.
Sequel on the Horizon
Fans have even more reason to celebrate—Netflix has confirmed a follow-up series to the critically acclaimed thriller. Titled Count to One, Count to Two, the sequel is expected to drop in 2026.
According to Denmark’s largest movie site, Kino, filming was in full swing as of October 2024, with production expected to wrap by January.
What’s Next for Naia and Mark?
The sequel will reunite Curcic and Folsgaard as Naia and Mark, with new cast members Sofie Gråbøl (The Killing) and Katinka Lærke Petersen (Maybe Baby) joining the fold.
Plot details reveal that the detectives will be plunged into another chilling murder investigation. This time, the case is linked to the killing of a high schooler that remained unsolved for decades. The perpetrator is said to manipulate and humiliate victims through a twisted game of hide-and-seek that dates back more than 30 years.
With The Chestnut Man still available for streaming on Netflix, viewers can dive into the mystery now while eagerly awaiting the next chapter of this gripping saga. Will Naia and Mark catch the killer before more lives are lost? Fans are already on edge for the answers.
