Halo surprises all with a massive new release that you can experience right now

Halo just got a massive new release you can download now

The next Halo game is probably years away at this point, so why not revisit some of the classics in a whole new way with this Halo 2 overhaul?

Halo 2 is a odd game in the franchise, as it’s incomplete, broken in a few places, and gave us one of the most controversial cliffhanger endings in history, yet it’s still beloved by many.

There’s also a lot of cut-content that didn’t make it into the final game, much of which has been restored over the years by modders with a little help and support from Halo Studios.

Now though you can play a version of Halo 2 on Steam called Halo 2: Uncut, found in the Steam Workshop, and it might as well be a different game entirely.

It basically restores all of the cut-content and integrates it into the game in a way that doesn’t feel intrusive or out of place. It’d be an understatement to say a lot of effort has gone into the overhaul, and it’s paid off because fans are loving every minute of it.

The mod includes levels and areas typically inaccessible in the official port of the game, removed weapons, changes to existing weapons to make them behave the same as they did in the Halo 2 beta, and much much more.

It’s a complete rework and one that’s well-worth playing if you primarily play on PC, as at the time of writing mod support isn’t available for the Xbox version of the game.

For those who don’t have a PC but do own a Steam Deck, you should be able to get the mod working on there with Halo: The Master Chief Collection, it is verified after all.
