Batman just randomly appeared in an official, canon episode of a show set in James Gunn’s DCU – and fans seem relatively happy about what little we can already glean from The Caped Crusader’s first official appearance.
By the way, this article contains massive, huge spoilers for the latest episode of Creature Commandos so proceed at your own peril if you’re not up to date.
Episode of six of Creature Commandos, titled “Priyatel Skelet”, explores the backstory of nuclear scientist Alexander Sartorius – better known to viewers as Doctor Phosphorus.
During Doctor Phosphorus’ post-transformation escapades, he tracks down Rupert Thorne (the man who killed his family) and takes over his criminal empire… which forces him into a confrontation with Batman.
Although you only see Batman for a brief second, it’s a pretty clear shot – and our first proper look at the canon version of the DCU’s Dark Knight.
Now I should add that we did technically also see Batman in the fourth episode of Creature Commandos, “Chasing Squirrels”.
However, that wasn’t actually the DCU’s proper version of Batman, as the heroes you see are part of a post-apocalyptic nightmare scenario that Circe shows to Amanda Waller. This new version of Batman is our proper Dark Knight moving forward.
In a Reddit thread detailing the review, all of the comments were naturally hyper-fixated on getting to see our first look at Batman.
“This bat is JACKED,” commented user Intelligent_Oil4005.
“I like this from a world building approach…” replied user Big-Sheepherder-9492, “we’re building the Batman and Gotham so far through the eyes of his villains.”
Gotta say, I think this is a super smart way to reveal Batman – especially in an animated series.
You can see his costume and his general frame, but enough of his face is obscured that you can still cast whoever you want in the upcoming role.
Still, bro does look absolutely built. Maybe those Alan Richardson casting rumours could end up being true.
