God of War Ragnarök is coming to PlayStation Plus, one of the best games in recent years.
Since its 2005 debut on the PlayStation 2, the God of War franchise has been one of Sony’s most popular properties. Over the years, Kratos has transitioned from a ruthless Greek God slayer to a protective father, raising his son Atreus.
Some might argue that Kratos has gone soft in his old age but I see this as character evolution and when push comes to shove, Kratos has no problem drenching his hands in blood, especially when it comes to protecting those he holds dear.
Kratos began this transition in the critically acclaimed God of War (2018) and Santa Monica Studio continued the gripping story arc between Kratos, Atreus and the Norse Gods in God of War Ragnarök.
Even if you’re not familiar with the God of War titles pre-2018, the first Norse entry does a great job of bringing new players up to speed. In that respect, while I would always recommend playing the classic games in the series, God of War (2018) is still a great starting point.
God of War (2018) is included in PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, so if you’re a subscriber and have never played this game, I couldn’t recommend it enough. What’s more, this week, Sony announced 11 new additions to PS Plus and it includes the aforementioned God of War Ragnarök.
“Join Kratos and Atreus on a mythic journey for answers before Ragnarök arrives. Together, father and son must put everything on the line as they journey to each of the Nine Realms,” reads the synopsis of God of War Ragnarök.
At the time of writing, a three-hour trial for God of War Ragnarök is included with a PS Plus Premium subscription, so you could always get a head start for when the full game becomes available on Tuesday, 21 January 2025. Moreover, you will also be able to download the free Valhalla DLC which takes place after the main story.
God of War Ragnarök is out now on PC and PlayStation.
