Soon, you can play the cancelled and long-forgotten Star Wars: Battlefront III.

However, this is not the sequel to the Star Wars Battlefront II of 2017, but the sequel to the 2005 cult classic that was initially released on PC, PS2, PSP and the original Xbox.

Developed by Free Radical Design, the studio that gave us the legendary Timesplitters series, Star Wars: Battlefront III began production in 2006 but was sadly cancelled in 2008.

If Star Wars: Battlefront III had been released, it would have likely been on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Wii. Since 2008, evidence of the cancelled sequel has made its presence known on occasion but has mostly been lost in the abyss of outer space.

Yet, as reported by Gameranx (via The Gamer), in an unexpected turn of events, a playable build of Star Wars: Battlefront III of the Wii version has resurfaced and it will soon be available to us all.

The playable build made public by the Free Radical Design archive team has been improved by a team of modders making necessary improvements to what would have been an unfinished product.

That being said, when the playable build of the cancelled Star Wars: Battlefront III is made public it will no doubt feature a lot of bugs, so don’t expect a perfect game. Nonetheless, it’s going to be fun taking a trip down memory lane to sample a game that may have been something special.

At the time of writing, there is no word from EA or current series developers DICE, whether we’re going to get a sequel to the 2017 game anytime soon.
