It’s time to put an end to all comparisons between Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2, as they’re unique and cater to different audiences.

It’s a known fact at this point that Diablo 4‘s biggest competitor in the market right now is Path of Exile 2. Both of these games have classic loot-driven gameplay, character customization, and rapid combat.

Even though they’re both unique titles, there’s always a constant comparison by gamers. However, Diablo 4‘s game manager has bashed all these comments and stated that both Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 are unique games in their own sphere.

In an interview with IGN, Diablo 4 general manager Rod Fergusson opened up about the game’s constantly evolving live-service mode. He revealed how Blizzard is sustaining the game’s longevity by bringing consistent content updates and being transparent to the gaming community.
While chatting, Fergusson was asked what games he’s been playing lately, if he has picked up Path of Exile 2, and how he feels about its constant comparisons with Diablo 4. The general manager says that both of these games are unique in their own aspects, and the comparisons have no ground.
They’re very different games
If you’re someone who has played these ARPGs, you’ll agree with Fergusson that they aren’t similar. With Diablo 4, Blizzard focuses more on lore-heavy aspects and a live-service model. It’s a game that’s more accessible and action-packed with simpler progression.
On the other hand, Path of Exile 2 is much more complicated and deep. It’s a treat for the hardcore fans of the ARPG genre who want a skill tree that can be customized in every way and challenges that will make them sweat.
Even in terms of updates, these games are quite different. In Diablo 4, gamers are used to seeing new mechanics introduced for every season while removing the old ones. However, Path of Exile 2 likes to stack all seasonal mechanics, which adds to the complexity of the title.
Diablo 4 might remove battle passes in the future

In another interview with Game File, Fergusson stated that modern Battle Passes can be considered “an antiquated system now.” He talked about a bunch of new ways to engage gamers and offer them more control over progression in the game.
That’s not all; he also praised Call of Duty‘s map Battle Passes, which allows gamers to choose what they want to unlock next. While this category of Battle Pass didn’t gain much hype, it seems like Fergusson believes it could be a new direction for Diablo 4.
Fergusson’s comments on the state of Battle Passes don’t really mean to confirm we’re soon going to see any changes in Diablo 4. However, it looks to outline a plan for the future of the game. Fergusson has also suggested that the APRG could receive more crossovers in the future.
It’s interesting to see Blizzard is planning to switch things up for the monetization model of Diablo 4. The studio has found itself in a number of controversies due to its aggressive monetization tactics. It’s great to see that the developer is finally listening to the community.
With that said, do you think Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 are similar? Let us know in the comments below.
