GrowNewsUS is a new publication in its launch edition, and we want to be upfront with anyone considering working with us. There are currently no open roles posted. This page explains the kind of contributors we hope to meet, what we are planning and how to get in touch.
No open roles at launch
We are not advertising positions right now. We would rather say so plainly than post vacancies that do not exist. When roles open, we will describe them clearly, including the nature of the work, and announce them on this site.
Who we hope to work with
- Freelance reporters in rural and heartland regions: people who live near the farms, plants, wind sites and small-town startups we cover and understand them from the inside.
- Data reporters: writers who can work with public datasets, check numbers carefully and explain them clearly to a general business audience.
- Editors: copy editors, fact-checkers and desk editors who care about precision, clarity and fair attribution.
- Specialist explainers: people with deep knowledge of agriculture, energy, manufacturing, finance or public policy who can write without jargon.
What we look for
We value curiosity, accuracy and humility about what you do not know. We favor writing that is crisp and calm, with the evidence on the page. Experience in a newsroom helps, but so does experience in a field, a plant, a lab or an agency, if you can tell the story well.
Fellowships: planned, not yet available
We would like to run a fellowship program for early-career journalists and for reporters from underserved regions. To be clear, this program is planned but not yet funded and not available. We are not accepting applications, and we cannot promise a start date. We will announce it here if and when it becomes real.
How to introduce yourself
If you would like to be on our radar, send a short note to [email protected]. Tell us who you are, where you are based, which beats you know best and include a few links or attachments of published work. Please do not send long manuscripts. Story pitches belong at [email protected] instead, so they reach the right editor.
Sending a note does not create an obligation on either side. We will keep your details only for contacting you about opportunities, and we may not be able to reply to every message. For privacy questions, write to [email protected].
Our commitments
We intend to pay contributors fairly for their work, to be clear about rates and terms before work begins and to recruit inclusively, looking for talent across regions, backgrounds and career paths. We will not publish pay figures until we have actual roles and budgets to describe.
