Editorial Standards & Ethics

The rules we hold ourselves to on accuracy, attribution, independence and transparency.

Trust is the only thing a news publication really has to offer. This page sets out the standards GrowNewsUS applies to its reporting, so you can judge our work against them and tell us when we fall short.

Accuracy and attribution

We aim to be right first and fast second. Every figure in a story should be traceable: either attributed to the party reporting it, such as the operator, the trial organizers or the company, or clearly identified as widely known background. We distinguish between a claim that has been independently checked and one that has only been reported by an interested party, and we say which is which. Where numbers are estimates, we hedge them and keep them modest.

Labelling launch-edition content

GrowNewsUS is in its launch edition. Many pieces are illustrative reports, case studies or essays, and they are labelled as such, usually in the opening lines. In these pieces we do not attach invented statistics, quotes or claims to real companies, people, government agencies, universities or products. Sources are generic or fictional and described by role, for example an agronomist with the trial. Bylines belong to illustrative staff personas during the launch edition.

News, analysis and opinion

We keep news reporting separate from commentary. Essays and opinion pieces are labelled and reflect the view of the writer, not a verdict of the whole publication. Analysis should show its reasoning so readers can disagree with it.

Conflicts of interest

Contributors must disclose financial or personal ties to the subjects they cover, and editors will reassign or decline a story when a conflict cannot be managed. We do not give investment, legal, tax or financial advice. We explain how things work so that readers can make their own decisions with qualified professionals.

No paid placement

We do not sell news coverage. Nothing on this site is a paid article dressed up as reporting, and no organization can purchase a favorable mention.

Company-submitted information

Can companies send us funding rounds or pilot data? Yes. Companies and organizations may submit announcements, funding news or pilot results to [email protected]. Submissions are reviewed by an editor, checked where we can and weighed for newsworthiness. We never publish unverified submissions as fact. If we use a claim we could not confirm, we attribute it to the company and say that it is company-reported. Sending material does not guarantee coverage.

Independence

Editorial decisions rest with editors. Subjects of coverage do not get to review or approve stories before publication, although we may check facts with them.

AI-assistance disclosure

We are open that artificial intelligence tools may assist with drafting, research organization and editing during the launch edition. Such tools do not replace editorial judgment, and our standards for accuracy, attribution and labelling apply regardless of how a draft was produced.

Holding us to account

If you believe we have fallen short of these standards, write to [email protected]. For factual errors, see our Corrections Policy.
